Inverness Harbour Trust has announced the appointment of a new chair.
Gary Campbell, current vice chair of the board of trustees and chief executive of the Crofting Commission, took up the role at the beginning of May from outgoing chair George Macleod.
George Macleod said: “It has been a tremendous honour to help guide the Port of Inverness over the past eight and a half years, six of them as chair. In that time, we have grown the business to a turnover of over £2.2 million, developing our expertise in handling cargos for the renewable energy sector and making huge progress towards our target of becoming a carbon neutral business by 2038.
“The Port, and indeed the whole Highland region, stands ready to benefit from the transformational effects of the wide range of infrastructure projects planned for the area and I’m confident I’m leaving it in capable hands.”
Incoming chair Gary Campbell said: “Trustees have a duty to leave the Port in at least as good a condition when we stand down as when we joined and George has more than fulfilled that obligation.
“Under his leadership the Port has gone from strength to strength, and he leaves us excellently placed to maximise the benefits of our position as a founding member of the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport.”
In other changes to the board of trustees, maritime operations expert and current trustee Ewan McMillan has been elected as vice chair and local businessman Ewan Calder has been co-opted to the board until 31 January 2027.
Port of Inverness is a Trust Port, an independent statutory body run by Inverness Harbour Trust – a board of trustees who manage the Port’s assets for the benefit of all stakeholders. There are no owners or shareholders, and any surplus is reinvested in the Port.
