Chart 1078 – Inverness Port Approaches

DREDGING OPERATIONS
Maintenance dredging operations are being carried out at the Port of Inverness, up until 25th August 2026.
Dredging will occur within the Port, adjacent to Marina entrance and the channel approaches. Disposal will occur at the mid-point of the Kessock Roads, just west of the old ferry piers.
These operations will be carried out by the dredger WYRE ESTUARY and associated support craft. The dredger has a red hull. She is 29m in length.
The dredger will make frequent daylight trips between the port and the Kessock Roads. Please keep well clear of this vessel as she will make unexpected changes in course/speed, whilst conducting operations.
A listening watch will be kept on VHF Ch12.

Chart 1078 – Inverness Firth & Approaches

Please be advised that Affric Limited, on behalf of the Inverness Harbour Trust (IHT) will be undertaking current and wave monitoring works within an area of the Port of Inverness. The monitoring will involve the deployment of ADCP units in two locations within the Port of Inverness.
Although ADCP systems will aim to be deployed as close to the locations specified, final positioning may be within 20 m of the stated location. The units will be deployed on the seabed they are 1.7m long, 1.2m wide and 0.56m in height, there will be no surface markers or mooring lines.
Deployment at these locations are expected to commence on the 26th August 2026 with recovery planned to be complete by 25th September 2026.
VESSEL DETAILS
The vessel ‘Firth Explorer’ (CainTech Ltd) will be used for deployment and recovery of the survey instrumentation and operations will be limited to daylight hours only. The vessel conducting the deployment of equipment will be restricted in its ability to manoeuvre and will display the appropriate lights and shapes. All other vessels are requested to pass at a safe speed and must give as wide a berth to the Firth Explorer as is safely possible.
All vessels will monitor Channel 12/16 VHF throughout the survey operations.

Please be advised that Affric Limited, on behalf of the Inverness Harbour Trust (IHT) will be undertaking acoustic monitoring for marine mammals, within an area of the Port of Inverness. The acoustic monitoring will involve the deployment of F-POD systems in two locations within the Port of Inverness.
Although F-POD systems will aim to be deployed as close to the locations specified, final positioning may be within 20 m of the stated location.
Monitoring operations at these locations are expected to commence on 26th August 2026 and be in place for upto a year. Surface marker buoys will be used, coloured orange and white.
VESSEL DETAILS
The vessel being used for this operation is the ‘Firth Explorer’, which is the same vessel also in use currently for the current and wave monitoring works by Affric (please see Notice to Mariners No.6)
