About Port of Inverness
Port of Inverness – A Trust Port
Port of Inverness is operated as a Trust Port under the control of Inverness Harbour Trust which was constituted by an Act of Parliament in 1847. Trust Ports are independent statutory bodies governed by their own local legislation and run by an independent board who manage the assets for the benefit of all stakeholders. As a Trust Port, Inverness Harbour Trust has no shareholders or owners, and all profits are reinvested in the Port.
In addition to the statutory provisions affecting the Port, our Trustees are guided by Transport Scotland’s “Modern Trust Ports for Scotland, Guidance for good governance”. Guidelines including the “On Board Guide to Good Governance” are also used to maintain best practice.
Inverness Harbour Trust, the body responsible for operating the Port of Inverness, has a Board of eight Trustees, seven non-executive members who are appointed for three-year terms and the Chief Executive.
