Port Employee Raises Money for MacMillan Cancer

5th October 2015

Gail Meeks, Administrator at the Port of Inverness has been very busy over the last few weeks raising an incredible £1,340 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Firstly she took part in the aptly named Loch Ness Beast Race, which involved a 10k challenge along the banks of Loch Ness.  It is no ordinary challenge, competitors endure a leg-numbing 10k along the banks of Loch Ness, through dense forest, undergrowth, heather and bog, on rough dirt tracks and of course into Loch Ness itself ... then add the obstacles! The obstacles include climbing 12 ft-high walls, wading through bog water as well as jumping into Loch Ness and if that is not enough competitors have to scramble over cargo nets and go through pitch black tunnels.

Having completed this event, Gail then took on the slightly lesser challenge of organizing the Port’s Macmillan Cancer Support’s Coffee Morning.  This was the second year that Gail had organized this event and yet again it proved a resounding success. Businesses in the local area were invited as well as port staff and they enjoyed the delights of home baking donated by various persons.

Commenting on Gail’s achievements, Port CEO Sinclair Browne says, “This has been a huge commitment from Gail and she deserves an enormous amount of credit for the effort she put in for both events.”  The picture shows Gail somewhere in the forest on Loch Ness side.
